BHUTAN

Bhutan is a landlocked country in Eastern Himalayas, surrounded by Tibet and India thus it is heavily influenced by Tibetan culture and Tibetan Buddhism. Majority part of Bhutan is covered by forest and it is the only carbon-negative country in the world. It is also known as the land of the Thunder Dragon. Visitors can see majestic landscapes with breathtaking views, pristine forests, snow-capped mountains with cultural diversity shrouded in mythology, ancient beliefs and Buddhist traditions. Buddhism was first introduced in Bhutan in the seventh century AD.

About two-thirds and three-quarters of Bhutanese people follow Vajrayana Buddhism which is also the state religion. This place is also well known for mountain adventure trekking and hiking. Jhomolhari Base Camp Trek, Snowman Trek and Masagang trek are some of the popular treks in Bhutan. It is also rich and has an unique cultural heritage that has largely remained intact because of isolation from the rest of the world until the mid-20th century and it is one of the main attractions for tourists in the country.

Bhutanese architecture remains distinctively traditional, employing rammed earth and wattle and daub construction methods, stone masonry and intricate woodwork around windows and roofs. Cham dance is a common traditional feature at festivals, usually accompanied by the traditional music. The music of Bhutan can generally be divided into traditional and modern varieties. Traditional music comprises religious and folk genres. The modern rigsar is played on a mix of traditional instruments and electronic keyboards and dates back to the early 1990s. The national dress of Bhutanese men is gho. It is a knee-length robe tied at the waist by a cloth belt known as the kera whereas for women, an ankle-length knee dress which is clipped at the shoulders with two identical brooches called the koma and tied at the waist with kera.
